Smart cities are one of the biggest potential markets for IoT development, and the recent introduction of new wireless technologies has significantly increased the number of services that can be offered. While Japan has been somewhat slow in adopting new smart city services, there has been a rapid increase in interest in smart cities in Japan since 2016. In fact, according to a recent ITR enterprise survey, public sector spending in Japan, including smart city spending, was the highest growing IoT segment of all verticals interviewed, with IT spending on such services expected to grow 892% between 2017 and 2020.【抄訳】スマートシティはIoTを進展させる最もポテンシャルの高い分野である。さらに、新しいワイヤレス技術が台頭したことで、スマートシティで提供できるサービスは大幅に増加してきている。国内におけるスマートシティ関連のさまざまなサービスの登場は遅れているが、2016年よりその関心は急速に高まってきている。ITRが行った最新のIoT市場調査では、スマートシティへの投資を含む公共分野のIoT市場が、全業種のなかで最も高い成長率を示しており、2017年から2020年にかけて892％の成長を予測している。（本文は英語です）
