As we have previously discussed, there is increased interest in the smart city business in Japan as the concept of a smart city has grown significantly in recent years in North America and Europe. More recently in Japan there has been significant activity towards making a smart community in an unlikely place: Yonaguni Island located in Okinawa Prefecture. The government has a vision to make a smart island which will use IT in order to promote economic growth and improve the quality of life of its citizens.【抄訳】近年、北米および欧州ではスマートシティの構想が大きく発展しているが、日本においてもスマートシティ推進事業への関心が高まってきている（Einstein's Eye 2018年2月号）。最近では、日本の最西端に位置する、沖縄県の与那国島という予想外な地域で、スマートなコミュニティを作る活動が開始された。与那国町では、ITの利活用による、経済の促進と住民生活の向上を目的としたスマートなまちづくりを推進するというビジョンを掲げている。（本文は英語です）
