The Japanese government has recently allocated wireless spectrum for the use of private 5G networks in Japan, commonly referred to as “Local 5G.” This move has generated significant interest among large companies domestically as they will soon have the option to design, deploy and manage their own 5G infrastructure with little to no involvement from mobile operators. Private wireless networks have not been widely deployed in Japan, however, there is significant interest from a variety of industries especially in the automotive, manufacturing and energy sectors.【抄訳】総務省は「ローカル5G」と呼ばれる自営の5Gプライベート・ネットワークの利用条件を取りまとめ、事業免許制度を制定した。これにより、国内大企業では、通信事業者に頼らず5Gのプライベート・ネットワークを自社で設計、運用、管理できるようになり、大きな関心を呼んでいる。これまでプライベート・ネットワークは国内であまり展開されてきていないが、ここにきて、特に自動車、製造業、エネルギー業界をはじめさまざまな産業で注目されている。
